John Mitchell is a Bremerton native who graduated from East High School in 1965. He graduated from Willamette University in 1969 before joining the Navy and serving as an intelligence officer in Vietnam, Korea and Panama. John graduated with distinction from the University of Puget Sound School of Law in 1975 and began practicing law in Kitsap County in 1976.

He served as part-time Superior Court Commissioner from 1978 to 1982, has served as a judge pro tem in nearly all of Kitsap County’s courts, and has arbitrated dozens of cases. John has the highest ethical and professional skills rating (AV) available from the Martindale-Hubbell National Rating System. In 2005 John received the “Local Hero” award from the Washington State Bar Association and in 2015 received the Professionalism Award from the Kitsap County Bar Association.

John married Aurea in 1973 and they have two sons, Jeff and John. Jeff is a pipe-fitter on nuclear reactors and John is a Vice President with Morgan Stanley. John has enjoyed sailing since he was a child and also enjoys fishing.

John is a past President of the Kitsap County Bar Association and the Bremerton Rotary Club and was a trustee of Olympic College from 1985 to 1992.

John has retired from the practice of law.
